London: Political pressure on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has intensified following the Labour Party’s disappointing performance in the recent local elections. Reports indicate that 57 Members of Parliament have called for his resignation, while three MPs have stepped down from their positions.

The MPs who resigned have urged Prime Minister Starmer to seek a vote of confidence and have suggested that the party should consider new leadership to move forward.

Labour Party MP Naushaba Khan resigned from her role as Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Cabinet Office, stating that she has always placed the interests of her constituents first. She described her resignation as a difficult but necessary decision.

In her statement, Khan said that fresh leadership is needed to rebuild public confidence and provide the better future that voters expected when they cast their ballots.

Earlier, Joy Morris, who served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Health Minister, also resigned from her position. She called on the Prime Minister to announce a clear timetable for stepping down, arguing that a change in leadership is essential to restore trust among the public.

Tom Rutland, Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Environment Minister, likewise resigned, saying he no longer had confidence in Starmer’s leadership. He criticized the Prime Minister’s handling of the growing political challenge posed by Reform UK.

Meanwhile, Sally Jameson, Parliamentary Private Secretary to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, also joined calls for Starmer to set out a timeline for his departure from office.

So far, neither Prime Minister Keir Starmer nor his office has issued an official response to the resignations or the demands for a leadership change.
